Encountering the Wildlife of the Combrailles

One of the greatest treasures of the Combrailles is undoubtedly its preserved nature. Here, the landscapes are still largely shaped by meadows, forests, hedgerows and small streams, offering a refuge to particularly rich wildlife.

During a morning stroll or an end-of-day wander, it's not uncommon to spy a roe deer crossing a field, a hare darting through the tall grass or a squirrel leaping from one tree to another.

Birdwatching enthusiasts will also be delighted. Buzzards, kites, owls and many songbirds inhabit the surroundings. With a little patience, it is even possible to observe a black woodpecker or hear the discreet song of many forest species.

Streams, ponds and wetlands, in turn, are home to frogs, newts and dragonflies, while butterflies and bees liven up the flowery meadows during fine weather.

To fully enjoy this biodiversity, you often just need to slow down. A walk at sunrise, a break by the side of a path, or a few moments of silence allow you to observe nature expressing itself freely.

In Estourgie, wildlife is part of everyday life. It's an invitation to open your eyes, lend an ear... and be surprised by the subtle richness of the Combrailles.
